Are organizational processes really discrete?

There are several questions that may arise according to organizational processes:

  • isn't continuous improvement a continuous process?
  • isn't continuous casting line a continuous process?
  • isn't competences improvement a continuous process?

Short answer is: no.

Each of them has defined beginning and the end. The continuous improvement in fact consists of multiple repetitions of process. Each repetition improves quality a little bit. In case of continuous casting line the process may take very long time, but still it's finite. In turn when we talk about competences improvement, we should distinguish organizational process from biological processes that happen in mind. In case of organizational process, it is finite and it's related to job performed by employee. Until the job doesn't change, the process will reach its end.
